5961 original miles (not a misprint). Comprehensive restoration of a solid, original truck. Runs and drives very well, with numerous upgrades like disc brakes and electronic ignition. Despite the extremely low mileage, the truck was completely disassembled and treated to a frame-off restoration, the engine was rebuilt, and all of the chassis components were inspected and re-sealed. A proper braden pto winch was added up front with the requisite power wagon split bumper, and it returned to service better than ever. The bodywork was obviously in excellent order before the paint went on and the finish is exactly the right shade of green. The fenders are not wrinkled and bashed, the running boards are straight and covered in spray-on bedliner material so they’re grippy, and the doors fit quite well, latching with a comforting “click.” the bed was also treated to a spray-in bedliner to protect the working surfaces, so no worries about a saturday afternoon trip to home depot for project supplies. This is a truck that doesn’t mind working as a truck. A gray vinyl seat cover looks period-correct and provides durable, low-maintenance seating that’s comfortable enough for longer drives. The factory gauges, having so few miles on them, are in excellent shape and are all fully functional and the mileage showing on the odometer is indeed correct. A big tachometer was added under the dash to the driver’s left and a vacuum gauge to his right, both useful for driving and tuning the power wagon’s six-cylinder engine. A mopar heater under the dash is actually reasonably effective and there are heavy-duty rubber mats on the floors. As far as we can tell, everything works, including the wipers, which is always a nice feature on any old vehicle. The 230 cubic inch inline-six is one of the most reliable machines ever devised by man. New bearings, rings, pistons, and gaskets, plus an . 030 overbore, mean that it runs like new and for a heavy-duty truck engine, the idle is ridiculously smooth. The engine was painted correct corporate silver and now shows some signs of use, but the rugged reliability underneath is 100% intact. Perhaps the most critical aspect of the power wagon is the driveline, and everything on this truck is in top shape. Incredibly, when the front hubs were disassembled, the factory tool marks were still visible inside the bearing cups, suggesting not only that the parts were in new condition, but perhaps that 4-wheel-drive had never been used at all! Nevertheless, the transmission, transfer case, and both axles were disassembled, cleaned, inspected, and reassembled with fresh seals and bearings, so everything works as intended. The front hubs were fitted with modern disconnects to save a few pennies when driving on paved surfaces and the standard front drum brakes were replaced with modern discs for vastly improved stopping power. The disc brakes are a bolt-on proposition, and the original backing plates, wheel cylinders, and what appear to be nos drums are included with the truck. The original steel wheels were restored and painted to match the truck, then fitted with brand new 16-inch off-road tires that have only a few hundred miles on them, plus a matching full-sized spare. The truck comes with a rather extensive cache of spare parts, including the aforementioned brake and engine parts, clutches, brackets, spare floor panels, plus a brand new, still-in-the-box arb air locker differential that’s worth several hundred dollars all by itself. There’s also a full set of factory service manuals. Desirable late-production power wagon. 15,654 original miles. Mostly original with known ownership history from new. Great documentation. Never rusty or wrecked, new brakes, runs and drives great! What is unusual about this truck is that it seems to have been expertly maintained throughout its life. It was a little faded and tired when it arrived, but a professional cut and buff was able to work miracles with the ancient enamel, and the shine really came up on the angular bodywork. What’s more, this truck appears to be completely rust-free, and that’s not a term we use lightly. The cab corners, the lower edges of the doors, the bed sides, and even the running boards are completely intact and in excellent condition. The bed still has wooden planks that might be original, and while the varnish has peeled, there’s no rot and we’d probably leave them just as they are because they fit the truck’s overall look rather well. There’s a correct replacement seat cover in place, so it looks right and is reasonably comfortable. A big speedometer in front of the driver goes to a wildly optimistic 80 mph and the auxiliary gauges all appear to be operational. The balance of the controls are sinfully simple, a key, a choke, a headlight switch, and a switch for the blower on the mopar under-dash heater/defroster (also fully operational). Although the power wagon had a long, long life span, it received numerous updates along the way, some visible some less so like the larger 251 cubic inch inline-6 engine. With so few miles, we doubt it’s ever been opened up and given that it likely lived a lifetime at low speeds, there’s no reason to think it won’t last another five decades without anything more than gas and oil. The 2-barrel carburetor was rebuilt two years ago and still lives under its original oil bath air cleaner. There are newer ignition components and hoses, and it always starts right up with a bit of chokelater trucks like this also feature modern 12-volt electrical systems with alternators, so maintenance is easy and man, does this thing kick over fast! It’s clean under the hood but we didn’t bother trying to paint or restore anything because that’s really not the point and if the right guy buys this power wagon, he won’t mind a bit. The axles are massive pieces that are designed for the heaviest of duties, with the front hubs being upgraded to manual locking units that may pay a small dividend in both fuel economy and reliability. We have extensive documentation on this truck, including the original certicard in the name of “town of st. Michaels,” several insurance policy cards under that same name, registration and ownership documents, the bill of sale to higgins yacht yard, plus its more recent montana title. It also includes some spare parts and receipts for the recent brake service work. We sell a lot of power wagons and we know them very well. Later trucks are more desirable than early trucks, and finding one that hasn’t been abused, rusted, and left to rot is getting increasingly difficult now that collectors have discovered them. This truck is one of the best originals we’ve ever seen and is ready to be enjoyed at the many power wagon off-roading events around the country. And for the moment, it’s very affordably priced. Move fast or be one of those guys who always wanted one but could never quite pull the trigger.

Nice original power wagon with recent paint and interior. Runs and drives great, 12-volt electrical system, 4x4 and pto winch fully operational. This 1947 power wagon delivers on its rugged good looks. It doesn’t look like this truck ever really worked very hard for a living, and the bodywork is in excellent condition with no signs of major surgery or rust in its history. In addition to the heavy-duty 10,000 pto winch on the front bumper, which is the power wagon’s most iconic feature (fully functional, by the way), it’s also equipped with a trailer brake controller and a removable hitch (not shown). The interior has been sensibly upgraded over the bare-bones power wagon factory spec. Most notably, the bench seat is now covered in durable gray fabric, which is a lot more comfortable than the original vinyl. The floors are covered with recent rubber mats and additional sound-deadening materials underneath, so this passenger compartment is a little better protected from heat and noise than most power wagons. The original gauges are in good order, although the factory fuel gauge and ammeter are disconnected, replaced by modern dials in the center of the dash and necessitated by an upgrade to a 12 volt electrical system. Other upgrades include a neat two-axis cup holder that’s a good idea in a vehicle that can go where the power wagon can, as well as a fan above the windshield that actually makes quite a bit of difference on hot days. All the other controls are as the factory intended and there’s an accessory mopar heater under the dash that’s fully functional, too. It’s easy to underestimate the power wagon’s 230 cubic inch inline-six, but it was built on its own assembly line and is designed to be the most reliable machine this side of an anvil. It’s also deceptively smooth for a truck engine, with a precise-sounding mechanical soundtrack that’s pleasing to the ear. Thanks to a lot of recent work that includes fresh ignition system components and carburetor parts, it starts and runs very well without getting cranky. The block is dressed neatly in black with no signs of trouble, and while it isn’t detailed for show, it’s functional and nicely finished. It’s backed by a 4-speed manual transmission and a 2-speed transfer case with a 1. 96:1 reduction ratio for really slow going. We haven’t ventured off-road with this struck, but all the 4-wheel-drive equipment appears intact and functional and the same goes for the pto winch up front. Recent goodyear tires give it the right look and are fitted to five original budd steel wheels with lock rings.

Incredible professional build. Cummins turbo diesel power, 5-speed manual transmission, 6-wheel disc brakes, a/c, satellite radio, leather interior. Go anywhere, do anything truck with incredible presence. This truck takes everything great about the power wagon and turns it up to 11. It’s impossible to miss a 7-foot-tall bright green pickup, and most folks do a double take when they see the tandem rear axles. They’re not quite sure what to make of it, but it talks to them on a visceral level. Black fenders always look right on a power wagon, and it retains all the awesome details that are part of the power wagon legend: an engine-driven pto winch (with 100 feet of ½-inch stainless cable), a big brush guard/grille up front, and stand-up headlights that give the power wagon an old-fashioned look. Out back, the 8-foot bed is big enough to swallow a pallet of drywall and obviously the suspension underneath won’t even blink, so no worries about using this thing as an actual truck. The heavy-duty bed rails and roll bar with window cage were added to help with the industrial-strength look, and it was all covered in spray-on bedliner material to make it virtually indestructible. The interior also keeps the original power wagon spirit alive while adding modern creature comforts. A pair of charcoal gray leather buckets replace the original vinyl bench, and while the upgrade makes this power wagon strictly a 2-seater, the improvement in comfort is tangible. Other smart changes include a tilt steering column with a pretty wood-rimmed wheel, powerful vintage air a/c that’s neatly integrated into the dash, and a touch-screen am/fm/satellite/ipod/bluetooth stereo system that folds out of the center of the dash. Those handsome gauges have a vaguely aircraft look to them and monitor all the vitals, including exhaust gas temperature and boost, among others. Carpets help control noise and heat and give it a nicely trimmed look, and simple door panels and a standard fiberboard headliner keep the look 100% dodge. The 3. 9-liter cummins 4bt turbo diesel engine is a neat fit in the power wagon’s engine bay, requiring no cutting or pushing back of the firewall, so interior space is unaffected. In fact, its first test was a cross-country trip from pennsylvania to california, a trek of nearly 3000 miles during which it averaged a little over 25 mpg. The tidy diesel powerplant shows traditional cummins tan paint and neat packaging of the accessories tight to the block, so service access is still quite good. Thanks to a nv3500 5-speed manual transmission, it cruises effortlessly at 65-70 mph in overdrive, and there’s a low first gear that idles at a walking pace but we’ve found that for ordinary driving, it’s easier to just start in 2nd. It’s actually pretty impressive to glance under this truck and see the details that went into that articulating rear suspension and because of it, the rear of this truck just hovers over bumps, giving it a better than expected ride. There are 4. 11 gears in the pumpkins, so it’s plenty powerful around town and we’ve learned that most drivers are surprised that this big, ancient 4x4 is also so quick. Stock power wagon wheels are really the right choice on a build like this, and they’re wrapped in a set of giant 9. 00x16 superlug off-road tires which, remarkably, ride pretty well. This is a very impressive truck. Obviously we haven’t probed the outer limits of its off-roading abilities, but we’re pretty sure nothing else can touch it. We have experienced it on the road, and unlike its predecessors, it’s comfortable, relatively agile, and easy to handle, and doesn’t need any special considerations out on the road.
