Sold new by packard of manhattan may 22, 1938• classic car club of america senior winner• one of only 157 packard v-12s in 1938 and one of the rarest body styles• v-12 powerpackard's 424-cubic inch v-12 engine, the twin six, made the company's fortune when it was introduced in 1916. It was discontinued in 1923 due to cost concerns, leaving the company to concentrate on six- and eight-cylinder motors for the remainder of the 1920s. The resurgence of multi-cylinder fever in the early 1930s brought enormous v-12s and v-16s from cadillac, marmon, pierce-arrow and lincoln, prompting packard to reintroduce a 445. 5-cubic inch, 160 hp v-12 in 1932. Generating almost double the horsepower of the old v-12, it was billed as the twin six for the first year and then became famous as "the twelve." it was built until 1939 and was perhaps the finest american car of the decade. Van ranst, who had worked for harry miller and e. Cord, the engine boasted 322 foot-pounds of torque and could propel enormous coachbuilt sedans and limousines to 60 mph in 20 seconds. One was timed at 101 mph, but packard only claimed "in excess of 85 mph."the 67-degree engine was a modified l configuration with valve stems almost horizontal and operated by a camshaft deep in the engine's heads through roller rockers on hydraulically adjusted eccentrics. The result was almost completely silent. In 1935 aluminum heads and a longer stroke boosted the engine displacement to 473 cubic inches and the horsepower to 175, putting a genuine 100 mph in reach. Most bodies emanated from lebaron and the murray body corporation, but while edward macauley headed packard's in-house styling department, along with alex de sakhnoffsky, raymond dietrich was the most influential figure. However by 1937 dietrich had gone, and the custom bodywork was shared between brunn and rollston. The car offered here is a five-place victoria, a body style named after a horse-drawn carriage, which featured fitted side-windows and an expansive blind c-pillar. Preferred by owner-drivers, the victoria could be buttoned up tight in inclement weather, or the top could be lowered into a well behind the doors, for a sleek open look when the sun came out. This car was sold new by packard of manhattan in new york city. It was painstakingly restored a number of years ago and won a classic car of america senior first place trophy #1609. Finished in gleaming black paint, it has a fine red leather interior, banjo steering wheel and grey dash that was only used for the 1938 model year. The black canvas top has red piping, and the car carries twin side-mounts with mirrors, twin spotlights and a rear trunk rack. The chrome and paint are excellent, and overall this five-passenger victoria may be described as a superior motor car, reported to be in sound mechanical condition .

Known as the nineteenth series, the 1941 packard model line continued the styling innovations that were pioneered during the prior year, along with a variety of detail updates. The nineteenth series can be identified by its headlights, which were incorporated into the re-designed fenders. Wide vertical side grill sections were added to the car and the bumpers were also re-designed. The instrument panel came in several colors to harmonize with interior. The 160 continued to share the same engine and chassis introduced in the eighteenth series. This senior packard 160 sedan is totally original with only 28,000 miles. It sports original upholstery, carpets, headliner, door panels, plastic dash, working instruments, trunk interior and carpets, and all the chrome and paint. Under the hood still looks original as the air cleaner, manifold and radiator have never been repainted. This car has recently undergone over $30,000 in engine and suspension work, including a new water pump, wiring, fluids, wheel cylinders, brakes, king pins, control arm bushings, gaskets and other improvements to bring this car up to perfect operating standards. The work was done by rm restorations of canada and all invoices are available for review. The car is equipped with overdrive and an electric fuel pump. As the saying goes “it’s only original once.”note:this vehicle has been meticulously restored with over $20. 000 worth of mechanical upgrades. The actual invoices can be viewed on the site www.

Ask the man who owns one.” for most of packard’s 58-year life, the slogan was an integral part of the company’s existence. No mere cocky catchphrase; it was simply the automaker’s best advice to its customers. If one needed to know why he or she should buy a packard, all they had to do was ask someone who already had one. The company’s 1935 line offered something for every taste. Most prominently offered was a wide range of eight-cylinder models, from the new, medium-priced one twenty to the vast and luxurious super eight. In between was the so-called “standard” eight, which boasted a nearly identical range of both styles to its larger sibling, but it came on a slightly shorter wheelbase and with a 130-horsepower, 320-cubic inch engine. As the eight and super eight were nearly indistinguishable to the casual observer, it is a surprise that the eight outsold the super eight by a factor of three to one. This eight convertible victoria model 1201 being offered is a very well preserved older restoration on a rust free chassis. The chrome is excellent and all the gauges, except the gas gauge, work.

As the custom coachbuilding industry faded out of existence in the early 1940s, american luxury automakers slowly discontinued the factory-catalogued "semi-customs" that had topped their lines for over a decade. However, in 1941 only, an "owner-driver" variant, the sport brougham, could also be had. It was essentially packard's version of the cadillac series 60 special, and it featured a striking design, with narrow chromed window frames and a "formal" rear window on the shorter 1907-series chassis, as well as a sumptuously appointed five passenger interior.   the engine, a 356-cu. The wheelbase is 138 in.   this series 1907 custom packard has a great history. One of only 99 sport broughams built by lebaron, a division of briggs, this two-tone blue and silver model with approximately 58,000 miles is one of only 20 known to survive. The known owner history includes george oxford and don hanson who sold it in 2001 to tom mix; proprietor of the famous foreign motors dealership in boston, massachusetts, mr. Mix made his living from new mercedes-benz and rolls-royce, but his passion was packard and he built one of the finest collections over a 50-year span in the hobby. The car was in restoration at the time of mix’s death and the project was completed since 2006 by paul adrich. This packard has been driven about 2,500 miles recently on two ccca caravans. In 2016, the car was mechanically serviced by stone barn restoration including replacement of all lifter bodies. The power windows have also been recently serviced, with a new pump and solenoids.   to this day, it retains its original engine, as well as the original vehicle number tag on the firewall. Though most of the other series 110, 120, 160 and 180 were similar in body styling, the 180 had esteem status and was know for its exquisite interior detailing, including wood trim and vanities. Packard proudly acclaimed it was the most powerful 8 cylinder engine on the market. The Packard 180 was given a 356 cc engine inline 8 cylinder that produced an astonishing 160 hp
